“Father forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”
Unique in His death, never a man died like this one. Instead of screaming and shouting curses at His tormentors, He prayed. Jesus could at any time, have called for legions of angels with the spoken Word of His mouth and blasted every power that was set against His life into outer darkness, He chose to use that power to redeem the world from sin.
So unique was this man Jesus that a death-hardened Roman centurion said of Him, “Truly this was the Son of God.” The sun hid its face from Jesus’ death at the hands of sinful men. Darkness covered the earth for three hours. The earth shook because the dynamic force that brought it into existence died at the hands of sinners. Jesus was truly a one of a kind son. Jesus’ uniqueness continues in His ministry today. His fellowship with God has been eternal, for it wasn’t broken during His stay on planet earth. Jesus is calling us to a life of fellowship with the Creator God, the Father of the universe.
“Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:14)
The word peculiar means above and beyond the ordinary. The reason Jesus is a peculiar person is His fellowship with the Father. Jesus said, “I do what I see my Father do, I speak what I hear my Father say.” Although there will never be another like Him, He can make you a peculiar person; one who is beyond the ordinary, if you will learn to fellowship with Him. Men travel around this world to learn from great personalities and you can sit at the feet of the greatest, most powerful man, who has ever graced our world. He was exalted above every ruler and authority that has ever ruled or will ever rule in the sphere of this world or in the realm of spiritual beings, He is King over all.
